Iran to ban ties
Iran's religious police are preparing to reinstate the ban on selling ties, considering it "a fall" that is characteristic of only Western countries, reports The Guardian.
Wearing ties was banned in Iran after the 1979 Islamic revolution as a sign of violating laws, but that decision was ignored for a long time and many Iranians continued to wear ties. Ex-president Mohammad Khatami wasn't able to set restrictions and Iranians started importing and selling ties in almost all the small and large cities of Iran.
"Nobody has paid serious attention to the ban on wearing ties and that is why sales grew," one seller told ISNA agency, adding that store owners have been told that their stores will be closed down, if they put ties on display.
