CC President: “Sargsyan could campaign”
The Constitutional Court today denied the Armenian National Congress's (HAK) appeal to annul the results of the National Assembly elections.
"This decision is final and enters into legal force at the moment that it is announced," said the CC President.
The CC touched upon one of the HAK's main arguments according to which Serzh Sargsyan, as an official, didn't have the right to campaign during the elections.
"There were no other restrictions foreseen in the RA Electoral Code on the RA President's campaign," read Gagik Harutyunyan.
Harutyunyan recorded that the Central Electoral Commission couldn't have prohibited Serzh Sargsyan from participating in the election campaign because the HAK hadn't filed any appeal before the elections.
The CC also focused on the parts of the HAK's appeal that cited the observations of the election monitoring missions.
"The observations of the election observation missions didn't prove anything."
Gagik Harutyunyan also suggests changing the Electoral Code, particularly making it more appropriate and separating charity and political actions from the election campaign.
