Gas pipeline hit by explosion
A powerful explosion was reported in Turkish part of Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum gas pipeline on May 29. The blast took place in the part of the pipeline crossing from Sarıkamış region of Turkey's Kars province, SalamNews reports citing Turkish sources.
A fire followed the explosion reaching a height of 100 meters. The explosion wave broke the windows of neighboring houses in Sarıkamış. Attributing the tremors to an earthquake, the locals rushed to the streets.
Turan Ermiş, a representative of the executive power of Sarıkamış, said the fire was extinguished.
"At first, we received information that the explosion occurred in Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline. But later we determined that the explosion occurred in Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum gas pipeline. The situation is under control now," said the Turkish official.
