HAK: SerzhSargsyan made elections invalid
A representative of the Armenian National Congress (HAK) today demanded that the Constitutional Court invalidate the results of the May 6 parliamentary elections.
As the main reason for his demand, HAK representative Vahe Grigoryan cited Serzh Sargsyan's participation in the elections. In particular, he states that Serzh Sargsyan, as the acting president of the country, combined his working visits with campaign meetings for his Republican Party of Armenian (HAK). So did Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan, who violated equal rights of competition throughout the campaign. Grigoryan also claims that mayors and Republican heads of communities in Yerevan and Gyumri campaigned for the HHK during working hours.
According to the HAK member, 36 percent of candidates included on the HHK's list hold executive positions. He also demands that the CC publicize the list of people participating in the May 6 ballot.
HAK Coordinator Levon Zurabyan reminded about the disappearing stamps in passports on election day. The opposition representative says he reported the Central Electoral Commission about the ‘mysterious' disappearance at 9.15 a.m. but the CEC only sufficed with instruction election commissions to use ordinary ink.
Zurabyan also dwelt on another important fact: for the first time in Armenia about 38 000 voters had cast their ballots during morning hours.
The HAK coordinator says some representatives of the HHK were instructed to cast their ballots in the morning, so that they could vote several times on election day. Armenians of Javakhk and servicemen were visiting polling stations and voted several times.
CEC President Tigran Mukuchyan motioned that the court dismiss the action but the motion was rejected.
The Constitutional Court will contine hearing in the HAK's appeal on May 29.
