Hydropower plant project not submitted for appraisal
The working project, which foresees constructing a small HPP on the Marts River in Lori region, hasn't been submitted to the Ministry of Nature Protection for environmental impact expert assessment, ecolur.org reports.
On 15 May, Nature Protection Ministry Staff Head Edgar Pirumyan informed "EcoLur" in his letter N5/33/51219.
Reminder: EcoLur has received an alarm signal that a small HPP is being constructed with pipes of wide diameters on the Marts River. As a result, the riverbed will dry out in the range of 5-6 km and the ecosystem of the territory will be destroyed. In its letter addressed to the Ministry "EcoLur" mentioned, "if the project hasn't been submitted for expert assessment and no hearings are held, accept this information as an alarm signal, which requires inspections." The Ministry letter says nothing about conducting inspections and holding public hearings.
