Levon Ter-Petrosyan visits Victory Park
On May 9, 2012, Armenia marks the 20th anniversary of liberation of Shushi and the 67th anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic war and the anniversary of Nagorno-Karabakh Defense Army.
Shushi was liberated in 1992 during the tenure of office of Armenia's First President Levon Ter-Petrosyan. Member of the opposition bloc Armenian National Congress (HAK) led by Levon Ter-Petrosyan was at Victory Park. They laid a wreath at the Monument to the Unknown Soldier and honored the victims with a minute of silence.
HAK member Hrant Bagratyan, who was the country's prime minister in those years, says he could not imagine such developments in Armenia after the Artsakh war.
"It was highly important that the May 6 parliamentary elections were held in a normal way and that Serzh Sargsyan sobered up. We are all disappointed with the outcome," he said.
In the meantime, Serzh Sargsyan and Robert Kocharyan [Armenia's Second President] were in the Nagorno Karabakh Republic to attend a series of events dedicated to Victory Day.
Though Levon Ter-Petrosyan was also invited to Karabakh, he preferred to visit Victory Park in Armenia with his adherents.
