The U.S. agrees with Europe’s evaluation
The U.S. Department of State has presented its response to the May 6 parliamentary elections in Armenia.
Speaker of the Department for Europe and Eurasia of the U.S. Department of State Robert Hilton has mentioned that the parliamentary elections were held in a calm and peaceful atmosphere with the participation of opposition parties and election observers.
Hilton has welcomed the improvement compared to the previous state elections in Armenia.
"We support the OSCE/ODIHR observation mission's conclusion according to which the elections were "competitive, active and mostly peaceful". At the same time, we also share the OSCE/ODIHR's concerns about an "unequal field of competition", as well as the sale of votes and pressures against voters during the election campaign and on the day of the elections," said Hilton.
"In the post-election period we will continue to follow up on the facts brought up by local and international observers, as well as the investigation into the cases related to electoral violations," mentioned Hilton, reports the Voice of America.
