CIS observers: “People were eager to cast ballots”
Parliamentary elections in Armenia were held in conformity with democratic standards. Armenia is on the right path of democracy, Vladimir Garkun, head of the CIS observing mission, told reporters in Yerevan.
Although the mission registered some inaccuracies, Garkun said they were of technical nature and could not affect the vote outcome. Among these technicalities, he singled out the ‘vanishing' ink from the voters' passport and crowding at some polling stations. The head of the observation mission said they testify to high voter turnout and cannot be considered a shortcoming.
The observer stressed that both people and candidates had an opportunity to freely express opinions and held meetings. Besides, media equally covered the election campaign.
For his part, observer Viktor Guminskin accounted the high voter turnout for people's interest in the elections, which, he said, was the result of good campaign and media coverage.
