HAK supports activists
Statement of the Armenian National Congress (HAK)
Yesterday, police officers illegally attacked a group of environmental activists at Mashtots Park and injured several citizens. The initiative, which the activists were carrying out with persistence for a long time and had achieved success, could have set an example and could have served as another brick added to the construction of a civil society, but the government couldn't tolerate anymore. For the ruling regime, the most dangerous thing is the formation of civil society, the growth of enterprising citizens in different spheres, their fight for the solution to different issues and against the illegal acts of the authorities.
The Armenian National Congress supports the activists at Mashtots Park and condemns the police officers' illegal acts against them. However, the one that is directly responsible for what happened is ruling regime led by Serzh Sargsyan, for whom the police have become simply an instrument.
The different types of civil movements and initiatives can't be fruitful, if they are don't fit in the general political context. Any such issue can be fundamentally solved only through a legitimate government. The incumbent regime is the opposite of that, and that is why from the angle of efficiency, the main objective of all initiatives must be to eliminate that regime.
