Last week, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) adopted a reported authored by Zaruhi Postanjyan, a member of the Armenian delegation to the PACE and deputy from the opposition Heritage Party.

Document No. 12874, which refers the Protection of Freedom of Expression and Information on the Internet and Online Media, was examined during the PACE spring session. The document was under consideration at PACE's Committee on Culture, Science, Education and Media for one and a half year.

The author of the initiative, Zaruhi Postanjyan, could not attend the PACE session as she was involved in the campaigning for the May 6 parliamentary elections in Armenia. Sir Roger Gale (Great Britain) introduced to the Assembly the Document and the addenda on behalf of Zaruhi Postanjyan.

About twenty deputies made speeches praising Postanjyan's report for it effective and necessary contents. After long-run discussions, PACE rejected the majority of the addenda, but adopted unanimously Postanjyan's report on the Protection of Freedom of Expression and Information on the Internet and Online Media, Heritage Election Headquarters reports.
