Sharmazanov: “ Turkey is the only impediment”
Vice-Chairman of the RA National Assembly Eduard Sharmazanov today released a commentary on the Turkish Foreign Ministry's criticism of the statements made by U.S. President Barack Obama, French President Nikola Sarkozy and French presidential candidate Francois Oland on the occasion of the 97th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide.
In relation to this, the NA Vice-Chairman said: " Armenia welcomes the international recognition of the Armenian Genocide, the condemnation of crimes against humanity and the criminalization of the denial of those crimes. As for Turkey 's proposal to discuss the Armenian Genocide, I must mention once again that the Armenian Genocide can never become a matter of discussion. Turkey is the only impediment for the establishment of normal relations between Armenia and Turkey . It continues to keep the Republic of Armenia in a blockade, sets preconditions and continues to deny the Armenian Genocide.
The normalization of Armenian-Turkish relations will only be possible, if Turkey puts an end to this kind of behavior and fulfills the obligations that it has taken in front of the international community."
