Heaven shares Assyrians’ grief and sorrow
A monument dedicated to the Assyrian Genocide in 1915 was unveiled at the intersection of Moscovyan and Nalbandyan streets in Yerevan.
Representatives of Assyrian organizations throughout the world participated in the event.
According to official reports, about 5000 Assyrians live in Armenia; non-official sources put the figure at 7000. Assyrians believe that Turkey will have to face the black chapter of its history and recognize all genocides, including that of Assyrians.
Participating in the opening ceremony was Head of the Republican faction Galust Sahakyan who condemned genocides.
"Even today the genocide continues against cultural values," he stressed.
The speeches were interrupted because of the sudden rain. As the participants said heaven was sharing their grief and sorrow.
