Brusov students threaten to start strike
Hundreds of students of Yerevan State Linguistic University after V. Brusov today gathered outside the government building protesting against the controversial sacking of YSLU Rector Suren Zolyan.
Earlier in the day, Education Minister Armen Ashotyan signed a decree to appoint Gayane Gasparyan as YSLU acting rector- move denounced as illegal by the angered students.
The students demanded that Minister Ashotyan come down and meet them in the yard but they were told that the mister was not in the country.
The students claimed that each of them was Suren Zolyan and demanded that the Minister reinstate justice.
Asked whether they would not continue their classes in case Zolyan was not returned to his post, student Ani Mkrtchyan said, "Definitely not. The university will become a center of corruption otherwise."
Should the government ignore their demands the students threaten to go on strike.
