Students' protest demo did not take place
Students of Yerevan State Linguistic University were to gather outside the Ministry of Education and Science at 9.30 a.m. in support of Rector Suren Zolyan who was dismissed by an April 18 decree of Minister Armen Ashotyan. However, the protest did not take place.
A1+'s film crew waited in the vicinity of the Ministry for an hour but the protesters did not turn up.
According to some reports, they were prohibited from holding a protest demonstration.
Minutes ago, the YSLU press service issued press release reporting that Mr Zolyan is giving a news conference at 3:00 p.m. April 18.
On April 17, Minister of Education and Science Armen Ashotyan signed a decree to dismiss Suren Zolyan as Rector of Yerevan State Linguistic University after V. Bryusov and to terminate working contract N 134 signed on March 17, 2008. The decree was based on the minister's decrees N 160-A dated April 6, 2012 and N 173-A dated April 17, by which the rector was given "strict warnings".
