Film "River Turned Red" at the UN
On April 12, Armenia's Permanent Representation to the UN held discussions on "Genocide Prevention" at the UN central station.
The meeting began with an opening speech by Armenia's Permanent Representative to the UN Karen Nazaryan. In his speech, Nazaryan mentioned that the Armenian nation had survived the Armenian Genocide of 1915, which was an extreme manifestation of racism, and had the moral right to work toward genocide prevention. Nazaryan touched upon the tragedy planned by the Ottoman Empire and its consequences, mentioning that Armenia appreciates the efforts of governments, parliaments, international and non-governmental organizations, genocide scholars, as well as Turk intellectuals and simply average citizens supporting Armenia in the international recognition of that crime.
The discussions included the screening of Michael Hakobyan's "River Turned Red" documentary, followed by commentaries by Honorable Professor of the University of Michigan Dennis Papazian, Professor of the University of Massachusetts Ervin Shtub and Director of the Armenian Films Foundation, film director Carla Garabedian. The event was organized with the support and participation of Armenian-American structures and non-governmental organizations.
