Stopping construction
Residents of building #32 on Abovyan Street today sounded the alarm that illegal construction of a children's café was underway in the basement of the building.
"We woke up and saw construction going on. They chose a non-working day so that we couldn't complain to anybody," said resident Sedrak Arakelyan.
Construction stopped just recently with the demand of the Minister of Urbanization following the residents' protest.
"The Ministry of Urbanization accepted our complaints. There were several violations that don't comply with the plan that was accepted," said the resident.
However, the builders claim that everything is legitimate and that they had received permission to continue construction a couple of days ago.
"Experts examined the complaints and came to the conclusion that our construction doesn't present any danger to the building," said one of the builders.
The building is a historical-cultural monument built in 1934.
The residents' alarm didn't go unanswered. Police officers arrived and stopped construction until Tuesday.
