Baku has always tried to blackmail delegations visiting Azerbaijan in order to extort one-sided formulations on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian said on Wednesday during a joint press conference with his Finnish counterpart Erkki Tuomioja.

"However, these attempts of Azerbaijan do not contribute to the process of settlement of the Karabakh issue. Azerbaijan aims to throw dust in eyes of their own people. One thing is clear: the right of peoples to self-determination, which is a principle of international law and the UN Charter, is one of the most important objectives of the international community. This principle lays in the basis of settlement of the Karabakh issue, and the Minsk Group Co-Chairs propose it along with other principles," the Armenian Foreign Minister said.

Edward Nalbandian stressed that the Co-Chairs had stated on many occasions that the future status of Nagorno-Karabakh should be determined by the Karabakh people.

"Azerbaijan's attempts aim to mislead the international community. This definitely will not do any good to the Karabakh peace process," the Minister stated.

The Armenian Foreign Minister expressed hope that ‘the negotiations supported by the international community and the Co-Chairs will continue and a solution based on the principles of non-use of force or the threat of force, the right to self-determination and territorial integrity will be found.

In 2012, Armenia and Finland are celebrating the 20th anniversary of diplomatic relations.
