Kofi Annan to not go to Istanbul
UN Special Envoy Kofi Annan has had a phone conversation with Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyib Erdogan and has informed him that he won't be able to participate in the second "Friends of Syria" conference to be held in Istanbul on April 1, reports Reuters Agency.
On April 1, the foreign ministers of more than 60 countries will take part in the 2nd "Friends of Syria" Conference to be held in Istanbul.
The item on the agenda is the crisis in Syria.
The first meeting was held in Tunisia on February 24, and now the third meeting is scheduled to take place in France.
On March 31, U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton left Saudi Arabia for Turkey to take part in the "Friends of Syria" meeting in Istanbul.
In addition to the meeting, Clinton will also meet with Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmed Davutoglu and the foreign ministers of other countries.
