Minutes ago, the Territorial Election Commission No.10 refused to register pro-opposition tycoon and ex-member of Parliament Khachatur Sukiasyan as a deputy candidate.

The TEC chairman announced that Sukiasyan's documents were not complete.

The seven members of the TEC unanimously refused to register Khachatur Sukiasyan as a candidate for the May 6 parliamentary election.

This rejection came after the Passports and Visa Department of the Police gave a notice, stating that Sukiasyan not eligible to run in the election because he hasn't been permanently residing in Armenia in the past 5 years. The police had earlier submitted a report confirming that Sukiasyan permanently resided in Armenia in those years.

Sukiasyan's legal representative Ara Zohrabyan says the Commission's decision is ungrounded and is going to dispute it in the Administrative Court.

The lawyer did not hurry to conclude that the decision was politically motivated, while TEC Chairman said the decision did not have any subjective or personal reasons.
The commission today registered Garegin Nushikyan, Gagik Shahnazaryan and Saribek Sukiasyan (Khachatur Sukiasyan's brother) as deputy candidates. Garegin Nushikyan is backed by the HAK while the other two are self-nominated.
