Declaration adopted in Almaty
On March 27, the parliamentary delegation led by Chairman of the RA National Assembly Samvel Nikoyan participated in the Jubilee Session of the Council of the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly of the Commonwealth of Independent States in the Kazakh city of Almaty.
Before the session began, the heads of delegations laid flowers at the memorial of Independence.
Chairman of the RA National Assembly Samvel Nikoyan also delivered a speech at the Jubilee Session.
"It would be unfair to not mention the CIS IPA peace-keeping mission, as well as the important contribution that the Assembly made in the signing of the Bishkek Protocol between Azerbaijan, Nagorno-Karabakh and Armenia, which helped reach a ceasefire agreement in May 1994," said Nikoyan.
He underlined that Armenia's parliamentarians have stood at the core of the IPA and have directly participated in turning the Organization into an efficient inter-parliamentary structure.
The Council of the CIS IPA has listened to and accepted all 11 issues included in the agenda, particularly the results of observatory missions to several countries, the results of the CIS Inter-Parliamentary Assembly's activities in 2011 and the working plan for 2012.
The CIS Inter-Parliamentary Assembly has adopted a Declaration "On the 20th Anniversary of the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly of the Commonwealth of Independent States" in which the Assembly sums up the activities in the past twenty years. In the declaration it is particularly mentioned that one of the major directions has been laying the legislative grounds for Commonwealth aimed at ensuring all-embracing cooperation on the general legal ground.
