Hovhannes Tamamyan sentenced to 4 years in prison
A Yerevan court today sentenced a former police official to four years' in prison after upholding the prosecutor's demand.
The Court of General Jurisdiction of Yerevan's Kentron and Nork Marash districts today announced the verdict on the case of Major General Hovhannes Tamamyan, the former head of the RA Police General Department of Criminal Intelligence. The judge sentenced Tamamyan to four years in prison.
Earlier, the state prosecutor demanded a four-year prison term for the defendant, also insisting that he must be excluded from senior posts in state and local government bodies for two years.
The other two defendants, former police officers Armen Poghosyan and Vahan Khanzadyan, were released from the courtroom.
Hovhannes Tamamyan is charged with abuse of official authority resulting in grave consequences. he is also charged with covering up a murder and a failed murder attempt. He was placed under arrest on March 24, 2011.
