Legendary Tonino Guerra passes away at 92
Legendary Italian poet, writer and screenwriter Tonino Guerra has died at the age of 92.
The Golden Apricot Film Festival has issued a eulogy today for the famous screenwriter.
"Tonino Guerra went to join his brilliant friends Federico Fellini, Michelangelo Antonioni, Theodoros "Theo" Angelopoulos and many other celebrities who worked with him in the 60-80s in the production of wonderful films.
Tonino was a good friend of the Golden Apricot Film Festival. He showed a liking for Yerevan and Golden Apricot during his first visit to Armenia. We, too, loved this simple and lively man who had a boundless zest for life. He not only dedicated himself to the cinema, the arts and poetry, but to everyone he met.
With the death of Tonino Guerra the light of the world has diminished a little and a great sun has left the world of cinema," said the festival board.
Tonino Guerra was a guest of honor at the Golden Apricot International Film Festival in 2006. In 2010 he was awarded an Order of Honor of the Republic of Armenia.
He received the order for his significant contribution to the reinforcement of Armenian-Italian cultural ties, his role in world cinematography and on the occasion of his 90th birth anniversary.
