The Central Election Commission of Armenia today refused to institute administrative proceedings according to the application of Armenian National Congress (HAK) member Khachatur Sukiasyan.

On March 17, Sukiasyan submitted a petition to the CEC and Precinct Election Commission No. 10. In the petition, Sukiasyan reflected on the letter of the Passport and Visa Department that was presented to the constituency according to which the Department's official document, which it had earlier given to Khachatur Sukiasyan and which attested to his residency status in Armenia for the past five years, did not correspond to reality. In the letter, the Department said that according to their information Sukiasyan had not permanently resided in Armenia for the past five years, therefore could not be registered as a parliamentary candidate.

While substantiating the refusal, CEC President Tigran Sukiasyan said the issue of registration was to be decided by the Precinct Election Commission. Sukaisyan's legal representative Ara Zohrabyan approved of the CEC decision.
