ICRC given list of 90 Armenian captives
The number of Armenians held captive in Azerbaijan has considerably increased since the outbreak of the Nagorno-Karabakh war.
The State Commission on Prisoners of War, Hostages and Missing Persons has submitted to the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) information about 90 captives with the hope that the ICRC will organize their immediate repatriation.
Commission member Rima Arakelyan says the list includes both civilians and servicemen. She says the Azerbaijani side is creating obstacles during the joint work by violating the agreements.
"We agreed to repatriate captives within two months, but the results are far from being satisfactory," she said.
Rima Arakelyan says the former ICRC ambassador hindered the repatriation process with her activity.
"She was not consistent in her work and was not interested in the return of captives. The present ICRC representative is more compassionate and reliable," she said.
Rima Arakelyan also informed the presentees that the Commission on Prisoners of War, Hostages and Missing Persons is organizing lectures at cross-border military units.
