Moldova to have new president
The Moldovan parliament has set the date for presidential elections on March 16, Itar-Tass reports.
The country has been unable to elect President for almost three years now.
The ruling coalition, which includes the Liberal Democrats, has 59 seats out of 101 seats in the parliament. It is unclear whether any presidential candidate will be able to secure the 61 votes needed in the 101-member legislature to win. Members of the ruling pro-European coalition and the Socialists agreed to hold the presidential vote next week.
The deputies from the opposition Communist party, who boycotted a parliamentary meeting, find the voting illegitimate and demand to dissolve the parliament and hold early parliamentary elections.
