Election advertisements for low prices
What should be done to make the society show active participation in elections?
Member of the RA Public Council Arshak Sadoyan has the answer to that question.
"Armenia's mass media and voters have to lead a more active struggle."
The main topic of the roundtable discussion held by the Public Council today was devoted to voters' active participation in the election campaign, but the discussion turned into a debate over other issues, starting from the prices for advertisements that television stations set before the elections and ending with the activities of online media.
Member of the National Commission on Television and Radio Harutyun Harutyunyan declared that this year, for the first time ever, television stations have set very low prices for political advertisements.
The price for a one-minute political advertisement on television stations ranges from 18,000 drams to 120,000 drams. The NCTR representative suggests regulating the prices for advertisements of online television.
"If we regulate the prices, we also have to provide airtime," said Harutyun Harutyunyan.
Arshak Sadoyan recalled "A1+" and said: "The example shows that there are morally accepted norms that can function normally within the framework of norms."
Sadoyan suggests applying Russia's experience by placing photo cameras at all polling stations.
"I attach great importance to the role of photo cameras and believe that there is still time to create opportunities for the people to be able to follow up on what is going on at the polling stations," said Sadoyan.
All political parties were invited to the discussion, but only representative of the Democratic Party of Armenia Aram Gyurjyan was present. He noted that "all measures to be closer to the society have to be used during the election campaign."
