Heritage Party MP Larissa Alaverdyan today expressed concerns over the activity of the National Assembly, saying it adopts laws that trample human rights and closes all doors to democracy.

"I am ashamed of our National Assembly," said the opposition lawmaker.

She sees the ruling authorities as the main source of illegality and transgression and cites the bill on the legal regime of the emergency situation as an illustration.

"With the adoption of the law, they want to justify their illegal actions during the March 1, 2008 bloodshed," she stressed.

"When we count the present MPs, we do it in order to preserve the honor of our parliament," said the Heritage MP.

Country of Law (OEK) faction leader Heghine Bisharyan hurried to declare that her party had participated in the discussion of all draft laws.

"We have attended all sessions of the fourth convocation and participated in all votes. I am glad that you have noticed OEK's occasional absentees," said Bisharyan.

Then she said she was surprised that the bill on the legal regime of the emergency situation had aroused negative emotions among her fellow colleagues.

Speaking about her party's proportional list, Mrs. Bisharyan said ‘it will include people with good reputation.'

"No businessmen will be included in the list since businesspeople should not be engaged in the lawmaking process," she said.

"Unlike other parties we do not make grandiloquent statements and pledge not to include businessmen on our party list," said Armenian Revolutionary Federation MP Vahan Hovhannisyan.

Speaking about his party's alleged cooperation with the Republican Party of Armenia, Mr Hovhannisyan said ‘everything depends on the results though the cooperation is extremely unlikely.'

Regarding the statement of Armenian first president Levon Ter-Petrosyan that Robert Kocharyan [Armenia's second president] is a shipwrecked man, the ARF MP representative said, "the first president was the unbearable burden that forced other presidents to sink."
