HAK won’t boycott elections
Whereas the government applied force against the people on 14 April 2004, in 2008, it took unconstitutional steps and concealed the case of March 1 by shedding the people's blood and declaring a state of emergency.
This is what leader of the People's Party of Armenia Stepan Demirchyan declared during the HAK's rally at Freedom Square today, adding that the page of March 1 has not been turned over as long as those who perpetrated the massacres on March 1 haven't been brought to justice.
"The ongoing falsified elections and the obsession of doing everything possible to keep power finally led to the tragic events of March 1," Demirchyan mentioned.
According to Demirchyan, the Armenian people hope for change of power through presidential elections. "However, we can't overlook the upcoming parliamentary elections. Our objective is not to ensure our presence in parliament, but to bring the people out of this crisis."
According to him, the regime's assurances that they will hold fair and transparent elections are demagogic.
"We can't treat those assurances seriously because there haven't been corresponding evaluations of the previous elections and the falsifiers haven't been brought to justice."
The leader of the People's Party of Armenia declared that the HAK believes that boycotting the elections isn't the right way to go. "We have to mobilize our forces and win."
