Serzh Sargsyan will head the proportional list of the Republican Party of Armenia (HHK) during the upcoming parliamentary elections, HHK member Lernik Alexanyan told journalists in Yerevan.

Mr Alexanyan said ‘his party has great rating' in the country, thereby angering his opponent Tigran Karapetyan, Leader of the People's Party (ZhK).

"I still cannot understand what factors Serzh Sargsyan's high rating is accounted for. Is it conditioned by the fact that people live in abject poverty or in debts?" said the ZhK leader.

"Our surveys revealed that the country's president really enjoys high rating, with his pre-election program being completely implemented," was Alexanyan's reply.
"90% of the population is in debt. You had better speak about it," said Tigran Karapetyan.

To this, the Republican MP said his party was not an almighty force and did not have a magic wand.
Tigran Karapetyan underlined that people live in an atmosphere of fear in Armenia. "No one dares to participate in rallies for fear that he might be filmed or photographed and later dismissed from work."
The ZhK leader was surprised to know that Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan was going to Ararat marz to present their pre-election program.

"Why should they draft a program now? Does it mean that the previous program was leading the country to an abyss?" he said.

"People confide in the Republican Party more than in other forces," was his opponent's reply.
"They have nothing to do but to trust you, otherwise you will kill them," said Mr Karapetyan.

The ZhK leader further said that he had sold his two houses in the USA for the sake of his people.
"I sold them to give wages to my employees and to do charity," he said.
