Syrian military shells new towns
A military offensive is continuing in northern Syria, as counting gets under way after a constitutional referendum, the BBC reports.
A BBC correspondent says troops have been firing artillery, mortars and anti-aircraft guns at civilian areas in the opposition-held town of Binnish, west of the city of Idlib.
The hour-long bombardment stirred up general panic among the city's 40 000 residents.
No information is available about causalities.
On Sunday, February 26, ignoring continuing violence and bloodshed across the country, the Syrian government held a new constitutional referendum.
