Gyumri citizens join environmentalists
More and more people are joining the environmental activists at the park adjacent to Mashtots Avenue. The environmentalists were joined by several environmentalists from Gyumri. One of them, Hayk Barseghyan says their step will also set an example for those who are indifferent to this issue.
"They should understand that we are not indifferent. They should stand up for their city. We have problems in Gyumri as well, but we have come to Yerevan," said activist Hayk Barseghyan.
For the past 16 days, environmentalists have been fighting to save the green areas at Mashtots Park. They are against the placement of the stands that were demolished at Abovyan Street.
As long as the construction remains incomplete, the environmentalists continue to oversee the area and organize different actions during the second half of the day.
The environmentalists have launched a bicycle campaign. All those who wish to participate can learn how to ride a bicycle for free and tour the city to inform people about their struggle.
"They will let the city know so that citizens join the struggle and make their voices heard at places where nobody wants to hear us," said activist Artashes Khudoyan.
The environmentalists are also pleased to see that there will be warmer days ahead and that the nice weather will bring the more passive citizens out of their homes since this action is first and foremost for the children.
"There are no children's playgrounds, and the only swing is in this park," said mother of two, citizen of Yerevan Anna Adamyan.
