A court in Yerevan is due to return a verdict in a defamation case filed by lawyer Arthur Grigoryan against Haraparak daily on March 7.

Artur Grigoryan sues the newspaper over allegedly insulting comments left by several readers on the periodical's online version. Experts considered it to be an unprecedented libel case, since for the first time a news outlet is sued for comments posted on its website and not for the content of an article. For the six comments Grigoryan demands that Hraparak pay a total of 18 million drams in compensation.

Grigoryan's legal representative Tigran Atanesyan today announced in the court that the plaintiff had agreed to received the money within six years (250 000 drams a month).
The paper's lawyer Gevorg Gevorgyan said that the newspaper cannot be held liable for comments left by readers on its website.
