Sharmazanov reminds OSCE Chairman
Speaker of the Republican Party of Armenia (HHK), Vice-Chairman of the National Assembly Eduard Sharmazanov welcomes the statement by OSCE Chairman-in-Office Imon Guilmore on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict resolution.
"We are very pleased to see that the OSCE Chairman will do everything possible to resolve the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. The only thing he can do in this case is to make Azerbaijan sign the document and recognize the existence of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic," Sharmazanov told "A1+" today.
Does the OSCE Chairman-in-Office realize that he can only do one thing? In response, Sharmazanov said: "I am reminding him."
In his speech at the UN Security Council session in New York, OSCE Chairman-in-Office Imon Guilmore welcomed the OSCE Minsk Group's efforts for the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict resolution and voiced hope that progress would be made this year.
Politologist, former Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic Arman Melikyan views the new OSCE Chairman's statement as "his duty to try to make progress in the conflicts". Every new chairman says the same thing, but everything is left up to the Minsk Group and the preferences of the Armenian and Azerbaijani leaders, and that is a different story."
Melikyan says the OSCE Chairman-in-Office hasn't clearly formulated the progress that he expects to see.
"Anything can be considered progress, even the lack of progress. It is a clear fact that everyone wants to change something in the NK process of negotiations and go down in history."
Melikyan says perhaps the Minsk Group is viewed as the OSCE, but "the Minsk Group comprises the United States, Russia and France, which have important interests in the region." "They aren't mediators, but active participants and interested parties in the process."
