It's not worth boycotting the elections
"The authorities' pledges to hold free elections are not serious because there was no evaluation of the violations that took place during the previous elections and the murders on March 1," leader of the People's Party of Armenia Stepan Demirchyan declared during a press conference today.
Nevertheless, Demirchyan doesn't think it is right to pay heed to the calls of "certain forces" to boycott the elections.
"We have to mobilize all forces and participate in the elections with the hope of garnering as many votes as possible," said Demirchyan.
According to Stepan Demirchyan, the people in Armenia expect much more changes from the presidential elections and that is why there probably won't be a high turnout of voters during the parliamentary elections.
Touching upon the issue of making the transition to the proportional electoral order, Demirchyan noted that he was principally in favor of the majoritarian electoral order, but "Armenia should free itself of the majoritarian electoral order".
At the request of "A1+", Stepan Demirchyan also commented on the message of the Social-Democratic (Hnchakyan) Party to Russian Armenians in which the party calls on them to participate in the Russian parliamentary elections and vote for the incumbent Prime Minister Vladimir Putin "for the welfare of the Mother Homeland".
Demirchyan emphasized that he had been informed about the SDHK's declaration a couple of hours ago and mentioned: "The elections are a matter concerning the people of a country. I don't believe it is right to interfere in the electoral processes of a foreign country. We don't accept the attempts of other countries to guide our electoral processes. If Russian-Armenian organizations made a similar declaration, but not the force in Armenia, that wouldn't be right."
