Syria on threshold of civil war
By Russian President Dmitri Medvedev´s order, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Chief of Internal Investigations of the Ministry of National Security of the Russian Federation on February 7 left for Syria.
They will try to contribute to the reduction of military operations against the people on the part of the Syrian authorities. If not, a civil war may break out, reports the BBC.
When asked about his mission to Syria during a press conference in Munich, Lavrov gave a diplomatic response and said: "Ask your questions to the addressee".
However, the Russian Foreign Minister did add that "those who have presented urgent resolutions to the UN Security Council for a vote have ignored Russia's demand to wait until the end of his meeting with Bashar Asad".
We remind that the UN Security Council had been presented with a peace resolution on the change of the situation in Syria, which was developed by Arab-European countries and fell in line with the views of the League of Arab Countries.
Russia and China were against the resolution and viewed it as an instrument to overthrow the Syrian regime.
While the great powers discuss the means of helping Syria, the situation is heating up in the country.
The Syrian army bombed Khoms city once again today. According to the figures presented by the opposition, at least 50 people died in Khoms yesterday, reports the BBC.
The U.S. Department of State has already declared that it has called its Ambassador to Syria back and has evacuated the embassy employees from the country.
