Khachatur Kokobelyan: ""Everything is imitated"
Chairman of the newly-formed Free Democrats party Khachatur Kokobelyan, who in 2011 left the ‘cradle' of his political career - the Armenian National Movement (HHSh) without giving any reasons, named the mistakes of opposition during the 2008 presidential elections behind his decision.
"We were unable to stand up for the votes casted for us," Kokobelyan said on Feb. 6.
At the threshold of the parliamentary elections, he said the Electoral Code is being speculated.
"Everything is imitated in the political arena, the real situation is not adequately assessed," he stressed.
In 1991, we did not have an electoral code but there were definite rules of game. As a result, we had free and fair elections which were never criticized outside the country. A good electoral code is nothing in the hands of a bad performer and vice versa," he said.
Mr. Kokobelyan is for the transmission of 100-percent proportional system though he considers it unrealistic in the present-day Armenia. He thinks that the opposition forces should support a joint candidate at constituencies irrespective of the latter's political orientation.
