US Defense Secretary Leon Panetta believes there is a "strong possibility" that Israel will strike Iran's nuclear installations this spring, the Washington Post said Thursday in an editorial.

Israel indicated they're considering this (a strike), we've indicated our concerns," he added.

Earlier, Panetta said that there was a strong likelihood that the U.S. may strike Iran but they did not do it out of Israel's security.

According to The Washington Post, Israel believes that Iran has a great deal of enriched uranium in its secret underground stores, which Tehran can develop into nuclear weapons in the shortest period of time.

"While Israel believes that only the U.S. has powerful military means to prevent Tehran from producing nuclear weapons, however, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu does not link the fate of his country to the U.S. intelligence," writes The Washington Post.

In the meantime, Iran has not responded to Israel's threats. Moreover, on Friday Iran successfully launched its domestically-built Navid-e Elm-o Sanat satellite into orbit following a decree by Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, reports IRNA news agency.
