Armenians frustrated Çavuşoğlu’s plans?
The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) has frozen the activity of its subcommittee on Nagorno-Karabakh.
"The new bureau headed by PACE new President Jean-Claude Mignon took a sound and reasonable decision by freezing the activity of the sub-committee until the Armenian and Azerbaijani delegations hold consultations to determine the expediency of the subcommittee," Naira Zohrabyan, a member of the Armenian delegation to PACE, told A1+.
During its January session PACE twice discussed the fate of the subcommittee. Naira Zohrabyan says Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu [PACE former President] wanted the subcommittee to continue its activity while Jean-Claude Mignon decided to discontinue it.
"Thus, Mignon put an end to the notorious subcommittee. I hope that in the face of the French representative [Jean-Claude Mignon] PACE will have a prudent president will realize the inefficiency of similar subcommittees in the talks over Nagorno-Karabakh," she said.
She is convinced that the Karabakh conflict can be settled only within the framework of the OSCE Minsk Group since no one else masters the nuances of the negotiations.
Asked why Çavuşoğlu's endeavours failed in connection with the subcommittee, Mrs. Zohrabyan said, "Being PACE President for two years, Çavuşoğlu failed to justify the hopes of Turkish-Azerbaijani lobbyists - revive the subcommittee. The latter failed in its activity since it did not involve Armenian delegates. "
