"The Prosperous Armenia Party is in favor of the 100-percent proportional electoral order," secretary of the NA Prosperous Armenia faction Aram Safaryan said and reminded that that provision was included in the party's political platform in 2007.

The PAP, "Heritage" and the ARF-D today addressed a joint letter to the Chairman of the National Assembly and the Standing Committee on State-Legal Affairs with the request to hold parliamentary hearings on holding elections through the 100-percent proportional electoral order because the parties want to find out whether it is the time to start that process or not. "We have undertaken the initiative to participate in those parliamentary hearings with the purpose of hearing all the votes "for" and "against". After that, our political council will hold a meeting and will take a decision."

Can it be assumed that the PAP will vote "for" the joint initiative of "Heritage" and the ARF-D on making the transition to the proportional electoral order, if it is put up for a vote in the National Assembly? In response, Aram Safaryan said: "I can't answer that question because the PAP faction and the political council haven't discussed the issue."

On behalf of "Heritage" Party, Deputy Armen Martirosyan welcomed the PAP's participation in the parliamentary hearings. "I can't say anything about the discussions and the vote. Time will show."

At the same time, Martirosyan said with regret that if the PAP votes "for" the initiative during the vote, it still won't be able to eliminate the danger of it not being adopted in the National Assembly. "It won't be able to do that simply because the Republican Party of Armenia forms a majority in the National Assembly. Some Republicans also have to vote for the initiative."

Martirosyan also referred to the statements by members of the Free Democrats Party Alexander Arzumanyan and Ararat Zurabyan, according to which the Free Democrats will be cooperating with them in the upcoming parliamentary elections. "Yes, cooperation is possible not only with the Free Democrats, but with the forces that are concerned about holding free and fair elections. Negotiations are underway."
