Filmmaker Theodoros Angelopoulos dies in accident
Greek filmmaker, screenwriter and film producer Theodoros Angelopoulos, 77, died late on Tuesday, 24 January 2012, several hours after being involved in an accident while shooting his latest film in Athens.
The respected filmmaker had been with his crew in the area of Drapetsona, near Piraeus when he was hit by a motorcycle on Tuesday evening.
Theo Angelopoulos was an honored guest at "Golden Apricot" film festival in 2010. A retrospective presentation of his films was held in the same year, during which Angelopoulos received ''Parajanov's Thaler'' Award for his great contribution in the world cinematography.
"We shall never forget his sincere interest towards Armenia and its culture. He traveled a lot and tried to gain a lot during his trips. Probably, he had implicit desire to shoot a film in Armenia. Alas, the fate wanted otherwise," reads a statement of "Golden Apricot" film festival.
