France put Turkey in its place. This is how leader of the "Heritage" faction Styopa Safaryan assessed the French Senate's adoption of the bill criminalizing Armenian Genocide denial.

"This decision was the expression of the Europeans' disappointment. Throughout the years, they haven't been able to convince Turkey to reject its Article 301 and to give sufficient rights to religious minorities," said Safaryan.

Safaryan belives France was not only guided by its interests, but also the interests of the policy across Europe.

As far as the Turkish government's threats are concerned, "such political messages will play the role of a suppressor as long as Turkey doesn't have friendly and peaceful relations with Armenia."

ARF-D Deputy Ruzan Arakelyan says "the people can't be afraid of Turkey taking steps against the countries that make fair decisions on the Armenian Genocide".

Republican MP Karine Atchemyan says France gave the green light for other progressive European countries and, first and foremost, Germany to pass such a bill.
