Davutoğlu postpones his trip to Brussels to follow bill discussion
Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu has postponed his trip to Brussels to follow the debate on the bill criminalizing the denial of the Armenian Genocide which is set to start at 6:00 p.m. Yerevan time.
The Turkish FM will leave for Brussels in a month, the Turkish Foreign Ministry told Agence France-Presse (AFP) news agency.
On December 23, 2011, the French National Assembly passed a bill criminalizing public denial of the Armenian Genocide. The bill immediately sparked uproar in Ankara and Paris. If signed into law, the bill would impose a 45,000 euro fine and a year in prison for anyone in France who denies this crime against humanity committed by the Ottoman Empire.
