"Long Live Armenia of the Future"-with this dream in his heart, student of the Pedagogical Institute Movses Gorgisyan swore to dedicate his life to the idea of restoring Armenia's statehood near the eternal flame of Tsitsernakaberd in 1989.

Today, Gorgisyan's family, friends and a group of schoolchildren gathered at his tombstone located at the same place on the occasion of the 22nd anniversary of the death of the National Hero.

On January 19, 1990, Movses Gorgisyan died during the battle in defense of Yeraskhavan on the border of Nakhichevan. He was 28 years old.

By a sinister coincidence, on the same day, the group of outraged Azerbaijanis was ending the massacres of Armenians that had started a week ago. With those massacres, the Azerbaijanis were punishing the Armenians demanding self-determination in Artsakh. According to different estimates, the Baku massacres killed nearly 300 Armenians and emptied the Armenian population of 200,000.

By a twist of fate, 17 years later on January 19, a Turk teenager shot editor of Agos Weekly Hrant Dink for raising his voice about the Armenian Genocide.

On this occasion, a group of activists of the Young University Students Association today gathered at the peak of Tsitsernakaberd. The occasions vary, but there is only one reality. As in Baku and Yeraskhavan in 1990, as well as in Istanbul in 2007, the only reason why Armenians were massacred was because they were Armenian.
