Judge Mkhitar Papoyan has rejected the motion to release ex-chief of Armenia's traffic police Margar Ohanyan on bail or a written cognizance not to leave the city.

Earlier in the day, Prosecuting Counsel Mkrtich Vasakyan motioned the court to change Ohanyan's measure of restraint -arrest. Ohanyan said in the courtroom that he wanted to talk to the judge and prosecutor privately.

Besides, he announced that that his arrest was unwarranted.
Margar Ohanyan is accused of abusing power while in office and of large-scale embezzlement of state funds.
Particularly, he is charged with embezzling 2 480 720 liters of petrol.

Three other officials are involved in the case - Head of the Economic Department Ara Levonyan, technician Samvel Makhmuryan, and ex-commander Stepan Karakhanyan. Their evidence served as a basis for Ohanyan's arrest.

The former chief of Armenia's traffic police was arrested on August 30, 2011.
