Will former traffic official be released?
The Court of General Jurisdiction of Yerevan's Center and Nork - Marash administrative districts today starts hearing into the case of ex-chief of Armenia's traffic police Margar Ohanyan.
Margar Ohanyan is accused of abusing power while in office and of large-scale embezzlement of state funds. Particularly, he is charged with embezzling 2 480 720 liters of petrol.
Three other officials are involved in the case - Head of the Economic Department Ara Levonyan, technician Samvel Makhmuryan, and ex-commander Stepan Karakhanyan. Their evidence served as a basis for Ohanyan's arrest.
Prosecuting Counsel Mkrtich Vasakyan lodged a motion for the change of Ohanyan's measure of restraint and asked to release him on bail or cognizance not to leave the city. Vasakyan reminded that Margar Ohanyan had already recouped for the damage caused to the state.
The court retired to discuss the motion. The sitting will continue at 2:30.
