ARFD: “Majoritarian system is not legitimate”
The authorities have secured 41 mandates ahead of the elections, says Armen Roustamyan, a member of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation-Dashnaksutyun (ARF-D).
The MP advises the government to shift to a proportional voting system.
"We made calculations and concluded that it is possible to do till the end of March," he said slamming the government's failure to implement amendments to the Electoral Code.
"Armenian opposition must have at least 20% of parliamentary seats to be able to dispute coalition initiatives at the Constitutional Court," the ARFD member said.
The majoritarian system is not legitimate, an okrug (area) with 60 000 people cannot election a representative of the state body. "With coalition in absolute majority, current authorities have complete freedom of action," he said.
According to the ARF-D representative, the opposition cannot collect even 27 signatures to be represented in the 131-seat parliament.
