“Syria did not listen to S. Sargsyan’s grandmother”
Syria will not follow the example of France and adopt a bill criminalizing the denial of the Armenian Genocide, Syria's Charge d'Affaires in Armenia Mamun Hariri told journalists on Wednesday.
"The Syrian authorities will not take such a decision unless they thoroughly study the issue," he said.
The Syrian diplomat thanked the Armenian government for supporting his country at this difficult time.
"The events in Syria are incited by external forces and they left their impact on the Armenian community of Syria. The chaotic situation in the country affects the whole region," he said.
In reply to A1+'s question whether the bloodshed might continue in Syria in 2012 and what measures the authorities took to stabilize the situation, the Syrian official said, "We have to reach a format of cooperation that will be approved by the people, then everything will continue in its ordinary way."
Mamun Hariri underlined that Syria cannot maintain its friendly relations with Turkey.
"We all know that Turkey holds a variable position. Turkey has lost the trust of Arab countries and tried to play with the emotions of the Arab people," said the ambassador.
The Syrian diplomat confessed that his country made a big mistake as they did not follow the words of Serzh Sargsyan's grandmother who said in time that ‘Turks cannot be trusted.'
