After the New Year celebrations, citizens of Belarus will start being fined for visiting what the government views as "wrong" websites and not fulfilling their civil duty in the Virtual Area of the National Segment.

Experts have declared that that decision is equivalent to the command to deprive people of the right to use the Internet.

"Nezavisimaya Gazeta" writes that the amendment in the code "On Violations of Administrative Law", which compels citizens of Belarus to only visit websites that are registered in the National Segment, will enter into legal force on January 6, 2012.

Those who will try to offer their products and services to Internet users by posting news, information and messages will be fined 40-125,000 dollars in Belarussian rubles.

Those who will try to see what is being posted on websites banned at the state level and providers that dare to not switch off their websites will also be fined 125 dollars in rubles.

The National Security Service, the State Control Department at the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the taxing bodies will also follow the order of meeting the new demands.
