Leader of the Jewish Community in Armenia Rima Varzhapetyan says everything must be done to make sure the bill criminalizing Armenian Genocide denial enters into legal force and welcomes the French authorities.

In the bill criminalizing denial of genocides adopted by the Lower Chamber of the French Senate it is clearly stated that the bill refers to the Armenian Genocide and the Jewish Holocaust.

"The world has finally understood that it has to take such important decisions. The world is not only in the hands of criminals," Varzhapetyan told "A1+".

After being adopted by the Upper Chamber of the French Senate and ratified by the President, the bill will only be enforced in France, but Varzhapetyan hopes this will set an example for many other countries.

According to Varzhapetyan's sources, the Armenian and Jewish communities of France worked on this bill together. Even though France has recognized the Armenian Genocide of 1915 and the Jewish Holocaust, Israel still hasn't officially recognized the Armenian Genocide.

"I think the adoption of this bill will contribute to Israel's official recognition of the Armenian Genocide," she said.

The bill criminalizing denial of the Armenian Genocide and the Jewish Holocaust adopted by the Lower Chamber of the French Senate envisages one year in prison and a 45,000 Euro fine.
