Belgian national became hostage in Armenia
The children of Belgian national, Armenian National Congress (NAC) activist Luc Wadewale cannot spend the New Year holidays in Belgium since their father's passport is still at Mashtots Police Department in Yerevan.
"My children became hostages in Armenia, we cannot take them to Belgium to celebrate the New Year with their relatives," Wadewale's wife Gayane Vardanyan told A1+.
Remind that Luc Wadewale and Gayane Vardanyan were charged with Article 258 of the Armenian Criminal Code (hooliganism).
On November 28, Gayane and her husband went to high school N 94 in Ajapnyak district where their daughter is enrolled. The school lacked heating, and the administration required that each student pay 3,000 drams to install a heating system.Luc Wadewale informed the schoolteachers and the school vice-principal, Mrs. Mkhitaryan. A dispute took place on the first floor of the school's building and when the school's storage owner, according to Gayane Vardanyan, tried to hit Luc, the latter went back, hit Serzh Sargsyan's picture, which fell and broke. The school administration presented the police with a message stating that Vadeval had "intentionally broken Serzh Sargsyan's picture and had used swear words" against Sargsyan" and presented the above mentioned accusation.
Wadewale was moved to Mashtots police station for questioning. Later he was released after giving a cognizance not to leave the city.
"The Armenian government released you; you can go and take your passport," Gayane Vardanyan cited the words of the Consul of Armenia in Belgium.
She says her husband has applied to the Belgian Embassy in Russia since he has health problems and needs a major operation in Belgium.
"Luc is disabled and every two months he visits his doctor for consultation to get instructions and medications. The doctor has sent a formal letter and relevant documents informing that the operation is fixed for January 20. We have submitted all papers to the police but so far we have not received Luc's passport," said Mrs. Vardanyan.
